Heavier Dish needs Tighter Tripod Legs

Because of the much heavier dish, it is imperative to tighten the tripod legs more firmly. My heavy-duty tripod has only one clamp per leg. Hand tightening is not enough unless you have a dual clamp tripod (I'm not sure of this). If the clamp can't control the weight, the whole system will crash or sag. It can be costly. I've been fortunate as a minor sagging gave early warning.

You are so right and one of the reasons we only use dual clamp tripods.

The other reason is that with the screw clamps loosened, the quick release clamp makes it easier to get the mast plumb, which is so important for an easy setup!

Then, when you are done setting up, the screw clamp gives you a very firm hold.

Thanks, Barb. Part of the reason I posted this was because you basically told me this when I bought the dish and I wasn't convinced.

Well, I'm glad you got the "early warning" and nothing was damaged! :)
