| Large .98 Meter Systems |
Both StarBand and HughesNet offer the larger .98 meter antennas.The .98 meter refers to the surface area of the dish. A standard dish, as shown above, has a surface area of .74 meter (HughesNet) or .75 meter (StarBand). These larger dish systems increase the ability to receive an adequate signal, in areas outside the continental U.S., i.e. Alaska, Canada, and Mexico. However, these larger systems are considerably more difficult to take mobile. They are heavier, and because of the larger dish size, they are less stable on a tripod. Therefore, a larger, sturdier tripod should be used.
